SENIOR NAVAL SCIENCE INSTRUCTOR LIEUTENANT COMMANDER DOUGLAS P. COOK, USN (RET.) Born in Brooklyn, NY and raised on Long Island, NY, Seaman Cook joined the U.S. Navy and served as a striking quartermaster prior to entrance to the United States Naval Academy. Ensign Cook earned his Bachelor of Science degree and commission from USNA in 1974. After two years Pilot and Naval Flight Officer training, he served with PATROL SQUADRON TWENTY-THREE, a submarine hunter squadron, deploying to sixteen countries around the world. His follow on tour was with ANTISUBMARINE WARFARE CENTER PATROL WING FIVE in Brunswick, Maine. LCDR Cook's next tour was a one year unaccompanied duty with PATROL WING ONE DETACHMENT Diego Garcia, Indian Ocean as the Executive Assistant and collaterally as the yacht club commodore. Lieutenant Commander Cook then studied for one year at the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, R.I, earning his Master of Science degree in Strategic Studies and concurrently earned his Master of Arts degree in Financial Administration from Salve Regina University. LCDR Cook then served with PATROL SQUADRON FORTY based at Moffett Field in San Jose, CA. While attached to VP-40, LCDR Cook deployed to the Philippines, Diego Garcia, Oman, various ports on west coast of Africa, many littoral countries in the Indian Ocean and Misawa, Japan. He then spent the next three years working in the Pentagon under Mr. Dick Cheney, Secretary of Defense, as Mobilization Plans Officer for Reserve Affairs during Desert Shield/Desert Storm. He was then assigned as Mini-Boss and Admin Officer of the Air department on board the aircraft carrier USS CARL VINSON when she went into the yards in Bremerton, WA for overhaul. His final assignment was as Operations Officer for the NW Region under COMMANDER NAVAL BASE SEATTLE based at Sand Point, Seattle, WA. He retired from active duty in 1993 and has been instructing NJROTC since 1994. He taught at Shelton NJROTC and was instrumental in starting up the South Kitsap and Spanaway Lake. He started Curtis NJROTC in 2000 and they earned Distinguished Unit with Honors and were ranked #4 in the Nation by their fourth year. He assumed SNSI duties of the Bremerton NJROTC in August 2006 where he is currently employed. LCDR Cook is married to the former Leatrice Joyce Mau of Denver, Colorado. They have one son, Sean (’77) who is currently serving in Okinawa as an MA1. Sean is married to Angela and they have one very cool son, Torin ;}. |

MSgt Brooks served on active duty from 15 June1975 to 30 April 1997. Taking advantage of off-duty educational opportunities, she earned a Master of Arts from Webster University while stationed at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, SC. During her 22 year Marine Corps career Master Sergeant Brooks' primary Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) was that of Contract Specialist. She also held two secondary occupational specialties as Health and Fitness Instructor and Drill Instructor. Master Sergeant Brooks has been assigned to: Marine Air Ground Task Force Training Center, Twentynine Palms, CA; Marine Corps Logistics Base, Barstow, CA; Marine Corps Base Smedley D. Butler, Okinawa, Japan; Marine Barracks "8th & I", Washington, DC; Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, SC; and Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, NC. Her final duty station was Camp Butler, Okinawa Japan where she served two "In-Place Consecutive Overseas Tours" for a total of 7 years. Master Sergeant Brooks’ personal military decorations include: Meritorious Service, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement, Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation, Marine Corps Good Conduct, National Defense, Humanitarian Service, and Navy & Marine Corps Overseas Service. After retirement from the military, Master Sergeant Brooks established, Co-owned and operated a Christian Education and Learning Center in the township of Kitanakagusuku, Okinawa, Japan. Upon her return to CONUS, she obtained employment as Program Analyst and Senior Financial Analyst for government contractors supporting Naval Air Systems Command, Patuxent River Maryland. In 1999 she was hired as a DOD Contract Specialist at Pax River MD. Master Sergeant Brooks served as Naval Science Instructor for NJROTC, Curtis High School from 2000 to 2006. She assumed duties as the NSI at Bremerton Battalion NJROTC in August of 2006 Master Sergeant Brooks is married to Sergeant Major Carl M. Brooks, formerly the Sergeant Major of Marine Corps Security Force Company, Naval Submarine Base, Bangor, WA from 2000 to 2004. SgtMaj Brooks currently serves a Naval Science Instructor for NJROTC, South Kitsap High School in Port Orchard, WA. They have two children: Daughter Khoe Wraelle Brooks, a Special Education Teacher in Gainesville, FL, and Army Specialist Carl Maurice Brooks, Jr. US Army, Fort Bragg, NC. Master Sergeant Brooks is a licensed and ordained minister currently serving as church Evangelist with a local ministry in Silverdale, WA. |
